We make the world’s only wedding journey app – a mobile platform for couples, suppliers and guests based around every stage in the wedding journey. Our product beourguest.app promotes sustainability by reducing paper, food and energy waste for weddings as well as saving time and money for couples, guests and venues. Be Our Guest (beourguest.app) is a wedding planning app + digital invitations & guest RSVP + guest community + games arena + supplier communication platform + Photo Sharing App + ‘On the Day’ tool.
Where did the idea for your business come from?
We wanted to make the wedding journey easier and more sustainable. Our product began with digital invitations and grew from there based on the needs and wants of our couples and suppliers.
Have you always wanted to run your own business?
What planning did you do before you started up?
We did some research into the app development world and the wedding world. We looked at the wedding journey and studied this to make ourselves experts on every aspect of planning a wedding and getting married. We are software developers and we built the product ourselves, so the early days were spent actually developing our base product. We continuously develop new features with over 100 features at the moment and another 100 in our current product roadmap! We also spent some time looking into the marketing and social media side of things as these skills are new to us!
Which entrepreneurs do you admire?
Sustainable & tech entrepreneurs. Too many to mention! Though I will mention Kelly K from UpStarts – an amazing, talented media entrepreneur.
What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?
Our biggest challenge has been funding ourselves to build out this massive product as there was a lot of full time development required. We funded ourselves using our savings and consultancy work.
How have you promoted your business?
We promote our business in wedding magazines, on the radio, on wedding podcasts worldwide, in blogs, on our social media accounts (especially our Instagram account) and in person at wedding fairs and events. We’ve been featured in the Irish Independent, the Examiner and the Donegal Woman papers. We’ve also been on the radio with Dublin City FM on the Upstarts show.
Where do you see the business in 3 years’ time?
We see ourselves expanding worldwide, especially in the venues area where we will be providing venues with a way to communicate with couples and guests, save time, money and food and just make things greener and easier for venues, couples and guests.
What advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?
Keep going. A lot of persistence is needed but anything worthwhile takes work, effort and time.
